The Association of Stringed Instrument Artisans (A.S.I.A.) was established in 1988 to help provide a sense of community and professionalism to the field of stringed instrument making and repair.
The goals of the association include the establishment of a comprehensive database of resources, supplies and technical information, a means of providing multi-level education within the profession, assistance in marketing and promotion, and the publication of informative newsletters and journals.
A.S.I.A. publishes the quarterly journal Guitarmaker, a magazine for builders and repair technicians. Each issue contains a variety of topics for working luthiers. Click here or on the "guitarmaker magazine" button to see current and back issues, and for ordering information.
A.S.I.A. organizes a biennial Symposium for luthiers. The Symposium is four days of workshops, demonstrations, lectures, and discussions covering many aspects of lutherie. It is an opportunity for builders and repair technicians to get together, share and learn in a relaxed, congenial setting.
